The contemporary life with its tasks and requirements provides the situation when a profession of interpreter is very popular. In spite of the fact that it is rather prestigious and well paid, it has its Pros and Cons.

Pros of being an interpreter

1)It broadens prospects. Interpreters can travel around the world almost free of charge. Moreover, they discover a lot of new information for themselves concerning cultural aspects and obtaining a huge communication experience that provides the opportunities for the better understanding of the world.

2)It allows to learn new and interesting things from different spheres of life. An interpreter can visit so many places and can face so many actuals any other non-multifunctional worker is not able to do. Because an interpreter deals with different science branches such as nuclear physics or molecular biology.

3)It brings a lot of new acquaintances and provides the opportunities to be well-connected with the whole world. One has the chance not only to have lunch with the prince of Norway but to meet people from politics, business, showbiz that can be of use later when one decides to leave the sphere of translating.

Cons of being an interpreter

Concerning the Cons of being an interpreter one can distinguish the following. Unfortunately, sometimes interpreters are treated as service staff. It is connected with the limited mind of some people that are not able to understand that to translate from one language into another is a hard work. The notion of a hard work is estimated in a different way by different people. For a builder for example the profession of interpreter may seem not to be hard. But it also requires education, skills and talent, and experience.

Regardless the negative sides of the profession of an interpreter, the positive moments prevail here. One more important fact here worth to be mentioned is that this profession proves the famous proverb “as many languages you know as many times you are a person”.
