What is IELTS essay writing? What skills does it require from students? In fact, there are several kinds of IELTS essay writing aimed at checking student’s various writing skills. In IELTS writing part there are two types of assignments. Both require essay writing but on various topics. This may be:

• Descriptive essay;

• Argumentative essay;

• Essay on some social issue.

The first task is smaller and requires an essay in 150 words while the second – in 250 words. Therefore, time management is of crucial importance. Students lose points not because of the lack of writing skills or ideas but because failed to manage the time. So, the first thing to have in mind is to allocate necessary amount of time to every task.

Though good content is important, essay organization is also an essential aspect of essay estimation. To make sure the essay is written correctly, study the following tips:

1. First and foremost, one should read the task very carefully. Do not haste and take time to think it over. Consider what it requires from student and only then get down to generating ideas.

2. When a student has a number of thoughts on the topic, he/she should make an outline. It is preferable to write a traditional five-paragraph essay. Make sure it includes introduction, a thesis statement, arguments and evidences, and conclusion.

3. It is vital to make an essay logically coherent. The trick here is to use linking phrases between and within paragraphs.

4. It is important to make sure the essay is error-free. One should double-check the paper before handing it in. Pay attention to sentence structure, word order, punctuation, and spelling.
